7 Tips on Giving Your Life a Fresh Start in September

People usually talk about starting life all over in January after New Year, which is quite reasonable. However, for me September has always felt like a better period for a fresh start. I guess it’s connected with the beginning of the academic year. And even though I’m not a student anymore, I still feel the most motivated and ready to work on myself in this season.

In this post I decided to make a list of things you can do to have that desirable fresh start and change your life for the better. These tips are very easy to implement, so you can definitely use them in your ordinary routine without making too much effort.

Start Studying Again

You are never old enough to become a student. I’m not advising you to enter a university and earn a degree (though you can certainly do that as well, if that’s something you want). But you can simply take a course on a subject that you want to study. There are lots of online self-paced courses that aren’t expensive, some of them are even free. It’s very important and beneficial for your brain to constantly learn something new. So, go ahead and learn a new language take a course related to your work, so you can become a better professional. Or just study something you have always wanted, even if it has nothing to do with your career. This will help you remember what it’s like being a student and starting a new academic year, hence the feeling of a fresh start.

Clean and Organize Your House

Since the weather’s getting cooler and it’s not too hot anymore, it’s the perfect opportunity to have a weekend of deep cleaning, reorganizing your house, getting rid of everything old and unnecessary, making space for new energy to come. Don’t forget about interior. Decorating your place in a different way always gives you a fresh perspective, as it seems like you’re starting a new chapter in your life, even if the rest of your life remains the same.

Take Care of Your Body

If you want to feel better both physically and mentally, you have to take care of your soul’s temple. Start doing some exercises and stretching, opt for walking instead of using transportation, start eating a little healthier. With the cold season coming up it’s important to take some extra care of your skin, hair and organism in general, nourish them, give all the necessary vitamins. After having pamper days every now and then you’ll feel like you’re ready to take over the world.

Try New Hobbies

Remember what I told you about the importance of learning something new? It doesn’t have to be merely academic though. Trying new things just for fun is no less beneficial. Take some time and try the things you’ve been wanting to for a long while. It can be dancing, doing pottery, skating, making puzzles or learning how to bake pastry. Not only will you spend some quality time instead of doomscrolling, but you’ll learn new skills as well.

Change Your Wardrobe and Style

You have probably heard that whenever women want to change their lives, they start with their hairstyle. And that’s indeed true, the outer things do affect our inner world. If you have been dressing, doing hair and makeup the same way for years, it may feel like you’ve been stuck in a swamp. Having a cool makeover will help you feel more confident and get ready for a positive change. So, when you do that massive cleaning we’ve talked about earlier, don’t forget about your wardrobe. Get rid of the clothes that no longer bring you joy and donate them if they’re in a good condition. Then start analyzing which style suits you the best, buy the missing pieces and build your new outfits.

Insert New Habits into Your Lifestyle

Now it’s time to start working on your habits. Try to gradually get rid of the destructive habits and get new ones instead. Why gradually? Cause our brain is a big comfort-lover. It loves having the same repetitive routine, even if it’s not a good one. If you try to change everything at once, it may start a riot against you and you’ll end up with yet another failure. That’s the reason why all those fancy New Year resolutions don’t usually work, cause a person, who has been living in a certain way for months or years, drastically switches their lifestyle to a different one and can’t keep up with it. So, it’s better to take slower yet steadier steps towards your goal. Start by eliminating 1-2 bad habits and getting a couple of new ones every month.

Romanticize Your Life

I will never stop talking about the significance of romanticizing your life even if it is far from being your dream. I may even write a separate post about it, cause it’s something I believe in with all my heart. Shakespeare said, that this world is a big theater, so play your role, and play it well. Imagine that you are the main character of your own movie, slow down, try to see the beauty around. Remember that a lot of things depend from your attitude. You won’t be able to enjoy anything good happening, if you have a negative outlook.

  1. September is really the beginning of a new year for me since it is my birth month.
Though the unofficial end of summer, in the USA, is Labor Day, and the official end of summer with the starting of Autumn also is in September, lots of endings and beginnings occur this month.
Summer is fighting to hang on here in SoCal as high temperatures continue to happen. So, I’m not putting away the shorts just yet. And I’m glad my AC is working nicely on my truck as well as my house.
But, I’m definitely looking forward to cooler weather.
