Hello July: BuJo Theme 🌼

July is probably my least favorite month of the year. It usually gets really hot and stuffy, and it feels like the hateful weather is going to last forever. That’s how I’d describe July – like an eternity of burning sun. Plus, there are no wildflowers left, the grass turns yellow from green and it’s hard to notice the beauty around.

However, I try to see the good side of this period: it is full of delicious seasonal fruits, mostly peaches and apricots, melons, watermelons and corn, all of which are my favorite. Also, this month gives us a chance to take a break, to allow ourselves get lazy, have midday siestas whenever it’s possible. And if you’re lucky to live by the water or have a pool, then the hateful July becomes a long summer holiday.

As I said before, for me it’s hard to come up with bullet journal themes for summer months. So, I had absolutely no idea, what I wanted to do this time, except for the color scheme, which I wanted to be in different shades of yellow, orange and beige, symbolizing the fruits, flowers and dry grass.

I really like the heading this time, the shadow part turned out interesting. I added lots of stickers of either peaches or apricots. Apparently I can’t really tell them apart. I mean I can in real life, but not in illustrations. Also, we have some flowers, mostly sunflowers, as I can’t wait to see them back again in nature, to buy fresh bouquets and see how they lit up the whole house, like actual suns.

In the bottom I added a sticker of “Anne of Green Gables”. I truly love that book and how beautifully Anne describes each season. The sticker went well with the whole color scheme, so the choice is obvious. And I found this random “summer” piece of paper which finished the little “composition”.

To be honest, I didn’t remember any quotes about July, so I thought that I won’t find any good ones. Surprisingly, I did manage to find a few that perfectly describe this month, so here they are:

  • “Hot July brings cooling showers, apricots and gillyflowers.” (Sara Coleridge)
  • “I drifted into a summer-nap under the hot shade of July, serenaded by a cicada lullaby, to drowsy-warm dreams of distant thunder.” (Terri Guillemets)
  • “The summer looks out from her brazen tower, through the flashing bars of July.” (Francis Thompson)
  • “July, with its days of blue skies and time that seemingly stands still, holds a special place in my heart.” (Daisaku Ikeda)
