Why It Is Okay to Feel Unhappy ❤️‍🩹

Everyone wants to be happy and jolly – that’s a fact, and it’s normal, cause life seems so much better and colorful when you’re in a good mood. Even the most boring and irritating things feel less negative when you’re feeling well.

But let’s face it – we all feel sad and unhappy every now and then. But somehow we think that it’s a condition that we should fight against, get rid of those destructive feelings. Since childhood we’ve been told to suppress our bad mood or disappointment whenever we were in physical or emotional pain. We were told to hold back our tears (especially men) in order not to be seem as weak or pathetic. But who said that those emotions are a sign of weakness?

We’re wholesome human beings and we are supposed to experience all kinds of emotions both good and bad. Of course, the good ones feel, well, good, obviously, but it doesn’t mean that we should ignore or be ashamed of the bad ones. I actually believe that we all need to feel unhappy or even depressed from time to time. Because when you’re happy everything seems amazing, the world seems full of flowers, butterflies and rainbows. And only when you’re feeling a bit blue you become more realistic, start analyzing things in your life, see your mistakes or flaws and realize what you should be working on. Positive things are given to use to enjoy life, while negative things are there to make us wiser, stronger and more mature, that’s what life’s about, like yin and yang.

In reality these “destructive” feelings have the ability to clear our head, and after yet another emotional breakdown we all feel so much better, like there’s a weight taken off our shoulders. We feel productive, motivated and inspired, we feel powerful and hopeful, start believing in the good again.

So, what I’m saying is that it’s totally okay to feel unhappy. We’re humans, not machines or robots, we can’t be all bubbly and jolly 24/7. Sometimes bad things happen and we have the right to grieve. Sometimes we feel lost. Sometimes we can simply wake up feeling moody without any reason at all, and that’s okay too. I guess when we learn to accept our negative emotions, we’ll become more harmonious with ourselves and won’t dramatize our bad moods thinking that there’s something wrong with us. Because we’ll understand that life comes in black and white, we just need to be peaceful when we’re in the “black” zone and never lose our belief that the white line will soon arrive.

  1. You are absolutely right, destructive emotions lead us to reflection, this is the only way we can understand ourselves and the world😍

  2. It is sooooooo important that we feel the emotions that we experience. We don’t have to let ourselves be driven by them (because let’s face it, if we were, then a lot of the time we wouldn’t get much done!)

And practicing awareness of our own emotions can help us to acknowledge and empathise with other people in our lives, even if we don’t feel the same way about things!

Thank you for sharing this. I pray you are well this week, and that you’re moving well into what’s ahead of you. 🙏
