Hello May: BuJo Theme 🪻

And it’s already the last month of spring, how crazily fast time flies! May is probably my most favorite month of this season, and I don’t really know why. Maybe it’s because it’s the time when my most favorite flowers, aka lilacs, bloom, and I always have a fresh bouquet in my room. Maybe it’s an subconscious memory connected with school/university term ending and holidays approaching, I can’t really tell why.

But somehow May feels like the most peaceful month of spring, at least for me. It’s like the drastic changes have already taken place, and now it’s time for the nature to just chill and become lusher with every day.

If April’s bullet journal was all about cherry blossoms and was a little too colorful, May is dedicated to lilacs, simplicity and peace. I wanted to represent the soothing atmosphere that I feel around this time, and I think I managed to do that. At least when I look at this page, it makes me feel so calm.

The main color scheme of the layout are different shades of purple and white, just like this gorgeous flower. And of course we have some dried lilacs as well as stickers (though I think those may be lavender, but who cares) all over the page.

I loved the idea of having a little letter in the corner, with some white lilacs coming out of it, like it opens a portal to this month. I really hope that the white flowers won’t turn brown, so I didn’t glue them to the letter, just in case.

It took me an hour to make the header, because I didn’t like the colors or fonts I used. I tried again and again, and this was the best I could do. At first I didn’t thoroughly enjoy the results, but when I added the little details around, it became alright.

And, to end this post, here are the some poetic quotes about this fascinating month.

  • “May is the month of expectation, the month of wishes, the month of hope.” (Emily Bronte)
  • “May, more than any other month of the year, wants us to feel alive.” (Fennel Hudson)
  • “Another May new buds and flowers shall bring: Ah! why has happiness no second Spring?” (Charlotte Smith)
  • “The month of May was come, when every lust heart beginneth to blossom, and to bring forth fruit” (Sir Thomas Malory)
  • “Among the changing months, May stands confest the sweetest, and in fairest colors dressed.” (James Thomson)
  • “As full of spirit as the month of May, and as gorgeous as the sun in Midsummer.” (William Shakespeare)
  • “My heart is light with May!
The sky is soft; the coming birds
    Are silent on their way.”
    (Mary Mapes Dodge)
  • “In May one simply can’t help being thankful that they are alive, if for nothing else.” (L.M. Montgomery)

  1. Your pages look lovely. Fingers crossed that the flowers stay white. They should if they’ve been pressed properly.

      • That’s a shame. How long did you press them for? I’ve just done a quick Google and there’s loads of info about stopping them browning and they suggest pressing them for quite a while.

      • oh, I thunk that’s the reason, because I pressed them for like 15-20 minutes, until I was making the rest of the journal 🤔 thanks for letting me know, I’ll make sure to do it right next time 🤍
