Wanderlust 📍

This word has many descriptions :

longing or having impulse toward wandering

strong desire to travel

wish to travel far away and to many different places.

As you may have noticed, the meaning is basically the same. I don’t know where I found this word but it sticked to me for many years, because I felt related to all of the above. I also have my own understanding of this word: going to unknown, deserted places, finding hidden corners in everywhere. Maybe there’s a special specific word for that, which I don’t know yet. This isn’t a lexicological lesson though, I just wanted to explain it for those who aren’t familiar with it.

Since the pandemic started and the borders closed, the traveling sphere suffered the most, including agencies, hotels, even bloggers, who used to go to new places every week. Lots of people have been complaining about not being able to travel, to see new places, have new experiences… That might be true for a while now, but no one can take away your possibility of wandering. There are so many beautiful and amazing places in your own country, city and even neighborhood. And for your subconsciousness it doesn’t matter whether you’re walking in Rome, Paris or your nearest town, village. It doesn’t matter if the scenery of nature is situated in Europe or your country. As long as you can find the beauty everywhere and sincerely enjoy it. That’s what matters for your mind: seeing something new and feeling happy about it.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t say that those places are worthless, quite the opposite. You can’t compare the magnificent architectures of European cities, the breathtaking sceneries of Asia or America with something as simple as a common and ordinary little town. But it doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy that same little town, or can’t wander around, having new experiences. Because everything counts as a new experience, no matter where you go and what you do.

Everyone can be completely happy in Milano or London or any chic place like that, but not everyone can consider themselves happy just for finding something new and pretty in their neighborhood or city. That’s why people say, don’t connect your happiness with anything or anyone, because one day you may not have that one thing or person, and your happiness will just vanish in a split second. But once you find your authentic happiness that comes from within, all places and everything will be chic and awesome for you.

I’m really glad to have the ability of finding strange and hidden places in the middle of nowhere. Even if that thing is something as simple as a tree, flower, street art or a beautiful building. My parents are already teasing me saying “hey there’s a teeny tiny flower in the corner of the pavement, why won’t you take a picture of that”. I guess that’s something I can add do my resume.

What I want to say, don’t let anything take away your desire of being a wanderer. Don’t wait for the big things to come, start from little and low-key things and you’ll see how they’ll get bigger and more significant, even if it’s just for you. Go out and explore, and you’ll be surprised how many cool things you can find in the places you wouldn’t normally pay attention to.

p.s. here are some photos of my latest wanderings.
